Karan S. Chandhiok
Karan Singh Chandhiok heads the Competition Law and Regulatory practice group at Chandhiok & Mahajan. His practice focuses on advising companies on mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, investigations, complex litigation, and competition law counselling. Karan’s diverse range of clients includes some of the largest domestic and multinational corporations, such as Google, Intel, Hyundai, Michelin, Panasonic, Dalmia Cement, Bain Capital, Hellman & Friedman, and Indorama.
Previously, Karan represented Intel in the successful closure of a four-year investigation into allegations of abuse of dominance. In 2021, Karan helped Trident Limited in securing immunity; this was the first time that the Competition Commission of India (CCI), granted leniency to an applicant after the initiation of an investigation. Karan has also represented Fab Hotels, in obtaining a rare injunction against MakeMyTrip from the CCI. He is currently advising Google in the app store and Android cases.
Karan was invited to submit before the Committee on Digital Competition Law (CDCL), a committee set up to draft an act for regulating competition in digital markets. Further, he has also helped industry associations like USIBC and ASSOCHAM in navigating all significant amendments in the competition sphere.
Karan is the co-chair of the National Council on Competition Law and the Secretary of the Competition Law Bar Association. He has a BCL degree from the University of Oxford with a specialisation in competition law. He is dual-qualified in India and UK.
